Our kitchen is the core of the preschool. Eating healthy is one of our main goals for each child. We use fresh vegetables, organically grown as much as possible. We avoid the use of processed food. Milk is purchased in glass bottles. We use whole grains and a variety of flours.
A great way to learn about nutrition is to
cook. It is an easy way to familiarize children
with food they may normally be hesitant
to taste. Our cooking adventures range from
juicing to, spring rolls to manicotti, to tamales
to lightly sweetened desserts. All are made
from scratch and are vegetarian.
Our cooking projects tie in to what we are
studying. From ethnic dishes to the fun and
creepy cuisine prepared at the Witches Café
during the month of October, or a simple
Miss Spider Tea Party with spider cakes.
All are done to teach the children how to
make healthy choices and to experience an assortment of vegetables, fruits and spices.
